JuniorsThe ARA Junior team invites anyone from the ages of 12-18 to join an exciting group of young adults from all over the Anchorage and Eagle River area. We focus on building team-work, learning boat skills, and providing a healthy social activity for youth. ARA begins recruiting juniors before school ends for our early season statewide competition that is held in mid-July.
Junior practice starts in early May (once the ice has gone out on Sand Lake) and regular practices are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 4 - 6pm and continue until late September. The cost for the full year is $300 and covers indoor erg training, introductory rowing sessions for novice (first year) juniors, on-the-water rows up to 3 times weekly, as well as any race fees and t-shirt. There may be additional fees if you are invited to race with the team out-of-state. New juniors use sign up for the Novice Junior class Junior Learn to Sweep. Returning juniors log in to your member page, edit your profile and click the pay online button in the upper left corner to pay your dues online or download this paper form and mail it in or bring it to your coach. Remember junior fees are all inclusive so you do not pay any monthly fees - just the membership fee. If you've paid too much or have questions talk to your coach or email the team manager. Participation in a lower 48 regatta is not mandatory in the late summer session, but is highly encouraged to give young rowers the experience of a big competition day and the see what programs are available for Collegiate Rowing. Additional practices and cross-training activities are included through-out the season, but are subject to coaching availability and interest from Juniors. |
