About Us

Anchorage Rowing Association: Enriching the lives of our members and the community through the sport of rowing.

The Anchorage Rowing Association (ARA) was formed in 1998 to provide a broad-based rowing program for the community of Anchorage. Thanks to the efforts of those who enjoy rowing and want to share their knowledge and to those who are eager to learn, the association has grown every year since its formation. ARA provides opportunities for adults and teens to learn and develop rowing skills through classes, coached rows, and competitive events. We row from early May until early October out of our shell pen on the eastern shore of Sand Lake, behind Sand Lake Elementary. We are a member of USRowing, the national governing body for the sport of rowing. ARA is a 501 (c) (3) tax-exempt organization and is funded by memberships, classes, and fundraising activities.
